This update is intended for Symantec C++ for Power Macintosh 8.0 customers and will update the Symantec Project Manager, Symantec Debugger, PowerPC C++, and PowerPC C compilers to version 8.0.1. The update contains many bug fixes and enhancements over the initial release and is recommended for all users of the 8.0 development toolset.
This update contains four patch applications: “PowerPC C 8.0.1 Update”, “PowerPC C++ 8.0.1 Update”, “SPM 8.0.1 Update”, and “Symantec Debugger 8.0.1 Update”. It also contains a script application, “Build World”, which will rebuild your precompiled headers and standard libraries after you’ve patched the other components. Release notes for the Symantec Project Manager, Symantec Debugger, and compilers can be found in the “Release Notes” folder.
Applying the Updates
The updates are supplied as a collection of patch applications generated by AD Instrument’s UpdateMaker, one for each component, in the “Updates” folder. To install each update, do the following:
1) Double click on the update application (i.e. “PowerPC C++ 8.0.1 Update”).
2) In the file selection dialog find the appropriate translator (such as “PowerPC C++”)
and click “Update”.
3) You’re done. Now you can move on to the next update in the “Updates” folder.
After you have applied each of the updates, you should re-precompile your precompiled headers and rebuild your standard libraries. To do this, follow these steps:
1) Launch the Symantec Project Manager that you just updated, do not open any projects or create
a new one.
2) Launch the “Build World” script application and select your “Symantec C++ for Power Mac” folder.
3) The script will reprecompile the standard precompiled headers and will rebuild all of the standard
libraries (static and shared), the Bedrock Exception Library (static and shared), and the shared
library version of the TCL. On a Power Macintosh 8100/100 this takes 10 minutes.
If you are running System 7.5.1 and have not already updated your Power Macintosh Debug Services
application to version 2.0b14 then you must apply the update in the “DebugServices 2.0b14” folder for the Symantec Debugger to work correctly.
You’re done!
